Giant’s Glen Relationship Map

This setting’s relationship map is a little different: it uses proximity to show the stories of the characters as they traveled together.

giants-glen-relationship-map

For those who are not helped by visual aids, we present this summary, with a little extra detail:

Juri and Argent are twin sisters who came to reside in Chestnut Ford.

Ramia lived in Pinedeep Village for years, and Ivy joined her more recently, after Ivy’s change.

Siean rescued Flam, and the two of them traveled to Stonewall Township together, where they met Salome.

Sia and Mari are sisters who traveled together for quite a while. They joined with Ishowo and Koyokoyo (not long after those two met), and were also joined by Margery. Salome banded together with them for the Great Battle, but left after they arrived at Pinedeep.

Maska and Boral met not long ago, just after Boral’s change, but soon parted company. Maska met Ishowo’s band just before they arrived at Pinedeep. Boral has just joined them all there.

Character Contact Sheet

If you’re curious as to what might be coming up after Pearl of the Realm, here’s a sneak peek at the 124 pieces of beautiful stock art I’ve managed to find over the last few months.

Click for a substantially larger version (though still low-res, because I’m not trying to give away stock art here).

Contact Sheet

The descriptions given in this sheet are subject to change. Many of these I just grabbed because they looked cool, or because I thought the photo was particularly good, so the odds are good that they’ll end up as something other than what I initially thought. Others, though, I have specific plans for. I’m looking at you, Undercover Elemental Dragon and Fair Folk Tribunal.

Splinter Relationship Map

Splinter Relationship Map

The image above (click for a larger version) is a relationship map to help you understand and remember how the various NPCs of the Splinter interact with one another.

Using the Characters

There are three main entry points into this scenario. As Storyteller, the characters you’ll want to use first will depend on where the players’ circle arrives in the Splinter.

The shallow space between Creation and the Splinter might deposit the characters in the badlands, in the southeastern Blessed Continent. Here, they are likely to meet Yatna Modan, possibly in conjunction with a raider assault. If all goes well, he will take them to town of Clearwater, where they would meet the prophet Starsight. Jek Eikar is a potential “sidequest” character before Cynis Operations arrives and the game moves toward River Island.

The second option is that the characters might arrive closer in to the center of the Continent. There, they might run into the airship No Memory, as it carries Cynis Operations and their band of heroes across the land. (The airship is a prototype, and may have to set down for repairs.) The players’ circle will meet these central characters first, then Starsight and her allies, before heading to River Island.

Both of these approaches assume that the the players’ characters will take the opportunity to ally themselves with the native characters. If you don’t think that’s going to be the case with your players, the third possibility is that they might come out on River Island to begin with. Running into Karal Volan or Yushoto Koletta early on might convince them that they’ve landed on the wrong side of the war. Cynis Operations can come in later, as the characters consider an assault on the Weapon. Starsight and her allies likely won’t appear at all in this version.

Give the characters (both player and non-player) time to ask questions and be themselves. This setting is as much a character drama as it is an alternate-dimension story.

Athanor Relationship Map

Athanor Relationship Diagram

The relationship diagram shows how various characters in Athanor know each other. Most do not, when the game begins, but each of the unwilling contestants has a connection to at least two others.

There are three regions on the diagram: the inner circle, the outer circle, and the corners.

The corners are populated by characters who are outside the contest: the deathlord, the sidereal, two first-age automata left in the city, and a creature called by the deathlord to help make the game “more interesting.”

The two circles represent possible alliances: groups of characters who have no immediate reason to kill one another. They won’t hold together forever, but they can provide the “strength in numbers” that many characters will be looking for. This is especially important for balancing the characters here against the player characters’ circle, which is likely to have greater unity and greater power as a group than most any individual on the island.

For those who are not helped by a diagram, here is the same information in list form:

Slumber’s Grasp Relationship Diagram

The image below (click for a larger version) is a relationship diagram for the NPCs in Slumber’s Grasp.

SG Relationship Circles 500

At the center of the map, and at the heart of the situation in Slumber’s Grasp, is King Thenor. This complicates matters, as Thenor rests in a magical sleep, waking once once each month.

The first circle out from Thenor consists of the heart of the royal family: His great-great-granddaughter and regent Princess Athela, and her grandchildren Princesses Klara and Princess Kalestra.

The next circle represents near-family: allies such as Iko and Fia, Turning Wind, and Anvil Loves the Forge; outcast family members such as Prince Jasper who raises an army against Athela; and long-lost family such as Princess Ralia who has been thought dead for many years.

The final circle, on the edge of the diagram, is composed out outsiders: Sunset-on-Snow, who made Thenor immortal. The ghost of Galor the Never-King, who sought to murder him. The Iron Queen who rules the valley to the south, and the Raiton Queen whose sorcerous birds portend her return. And finally, Silent Feather, who may well kill the entire family.

Tomorrow you’ll get an overview of the setting, and then we’ll start posting the characters!
